The planning stage is easier than seeing it come to life. The first sight of a mess sends you in a fit of rage. Instead of letting that bother you, let patience, preparation and knowledge be your guide in the Remodeling process.
Preparation
Avoid stress and arguments by removing everything from the room. Treat the room as if you are about to move out of the home or move into it. The room must be bare. For example, if it’s a kitchen, remove food, appliances, utensils, table and everything in cabinets and drawers. If it’s a bathroom, take out shower curtains, items in shelves and vanities, toilet tissue, bath products and bath accessories. Designate another room for the space away from the remodeled area. Depending on the room, it may serve as storage or be functional. For kitchens, make sure there are outlets and sinks nearby. Decide if you need to move out during the process or if you can stay in the home away from the area.
Knowledge
Let the desire to understand take over. You need information in detail. When you are given a systematic guide to follow, you’ll know how much is already completed and how much is left. There is a timeframe for when it’s complete, but delays, accidents and other problems get in the way. In that case, the contractor should give you a new timeframe (or you need to ask for one). However, if the room needs to be completed by a certain date, tell the contractor ahead of time. If there are times where they cannot work for various reasons (work hours, bedtime hours, etc) inform the contractor about this too. Professionals are flexible.
Patience
Use your calm and serene demeanor to channel your inner chi. Professionals need to have a clear mind to focus on the task. The finished product will be a quality masterpiece. Treat them with respect and courtesy. What they don’t need is harassment and pressure coming from you. Nothing needs to stand in their way of getting the work done on time.
